Ahoy Sailors,
I had a bad day sailing the second racing day of this year’s Frostbite Series, and did not pay much attention to the details of the fleet. I was at times sailing with my motor down, resetting the downstream mark that lost it’s anchor and later lost my anchor, training new crew and generally was too busy being frustrated to be able to provide much detailed racing information. On a brighter side my new crew liked it and wants to do it again, meaning next time he will know more and I’ll be able to pay attention to other things. Following will be what I can recall “fairly accurately”.
Boats started hitting the water about 10:30, the Race Committee set off to place marks and prepare the course. It was decided to move downstream a bit to work the bend below the marina. This gave us a pretty good windward/ leeward course and having good wind, the downriver mark was well down river near the chip loading dock.
On the leeward leg of the First Race it appeared to be well beyond that causing many to think my extended course may be a bit over extended. Fortunately Conrad was following the fleet taking pictures and responded to a loud hail and picked up the mark. I didn’t understand why he wouldn’t reset it after much arm waiving yelling and pointing he met us at the finish to let us know he hadn’t set the mark because it had no anchor. Randy Blair took line honors in the first extended/shortened event.
While deciding what to do about the leeward mark ,Tim and Renee Little were heading to the course along with Greg Umbright. I decided to use my anchor and went to reset the mark. The Second Race got off to a great start with Tim and Randy being at the line well, Jeff slightly off that and Robbie just a bit early. It was a long two lap event seeing Randy again take line honors with Tim close behind.
The Third Race began with Jeff Hanson and Jim Fredenburg hitting the line with good starts on opposite tacks. Jim held a lead through much of the course before finally being run down by Robbie, Randy and Tim with Robbie sailing a fantastic race and collecting line honors as well as the corrected win.
It was a fantastic day for sailing with good wind all day and little moisture to worry about until after we finished.
Corrected results are posted on the Race Page.
