Ahoy sailors and land lubbers,

I can't believe we are at the end of March already.  I'm at least three reports behind as Commodore. Here's a quick update on happenings since the last meeting:

LCSA Perpetual Trophies
They have been on display at Blair’s Wind & Wood Boats for many, many years (thank you Randy & Kay), but they have not been updated by the past Race Committee Chairs (I share this blame).  We are many years behind in updating them.

Please contact me, if you won a trophy between 1996 and 2000.

I have been able to locate all the winners since 2000 (thank you Jerry Snell for keeping the results in one place) except for 2007.  Those results are in the Race Committee bag and Jeff Hanson and I just need to coordinate a hand off of information. We are working on finding a new location to house these trophies, along with the official Tribune Cup.  More at the next meeting (April 2nd).

The Frostbite Series - Fourth Race Day (or Spring Series as Tim Little prefers to call it)
The series has been well attended this year.  On average we've had eight boats out each Sunday and we've had good to great sailing conditions.  Last weekend was our first missed day as the early morning conditions were a bit brisk AND wet for most.  Jim Fredenburg and his crew drove down from Troy and decided the cold and wet were not the their liking and returned home. Randy Blair was unable to round up crew and the stronger than normal winds had him choosing caution over fun. Jeff Hanson had the misfortune of leaving his main sail at home, driving all the way back to get it, and then having racing canceled before his return.  Not to let all that effort go to waste, he, along with his crew Nate (first time sailing) and I set marks and practice our starts in the brisk, moist conditions.

After a brief downpour around 12:30, we were joined by Greg Umbright and Dave on Greg's Aquarius 23 for a blistering romp though the waves downriver to the Sundial Crane.  Winds were in the upper teens, swells were 12-18" and we are 'hoopin' an hollerin' the whole way.  Jeff, Nate, Dave and I called it quits around 2:30, but Greg hadn’t had enough and headed back out for some single handing practice.

Our next race is April 5th.

Dogwood Festival Business After Hours
Tim Little, Alex Gourluck and myself set up and attended a table for this event.  There were well over 100 people in attendance.  We talked and talked and talked sailing for over two hours.  We were later joined by Alex's wife Debbie, my wife Desirie and daughter Dylana, Greg and Christina Umbright and Dave (I can never remember you last name!).  The event was held next door to Rosauers in the Lewiston Orchard's so I set up my boat in the parking lot.  It got a lot of attention.  We had four people sign up interested in sailing lessons and over a dozen cards were gathered for the give-away of a nice framed print of Alex's - "LCSA on the Confluence".

The Alex Bell Regatta will be held April 18-19, 2009

Time for Cruising!
With only one race left in the Frostbite Series (sorry, Tim Little!), it's time to begin thinking about fun sailing / cruising.  Day trip to Chief Tim?  Flotilla to the Blue Bridge and anchor for lunch?  Other stretches of the Snake?  Trailer Sailor trip to CDA? Pend Oreille? Payette? Priest Lake (I've never been there)? How about Wallowa?

Whew . . that got longer than expected.  Get out and enjoy the winds and waves!
