Ahoy Sailors,

We showed up bright and early March 15th for the third racing day of this year’s Frostbite Series. The weather forecast had us a bit anxious and planning some heavy air strategies for getting ourselves back to the dock at a minimum. Forecasts ranged from the fairly mellow 14–18 mph winds with gusts to 22 mph, to the extreme 15–25 mph with gusts to 48 mph. As is the norm with weather forecasts, neither one was particularly close.

Race 1 started a bit late as usual waiting for a few boats to make their way to the starting area to get a race underway. Based on the forecast a fairly long course had been set up and we got off to a pretty good start around 11:45. Early leaders were Tim, Randy, Robby and Mary - all getting pretty good starts in winds going from light to none and back again. Robbie and Randy showed some very good light air performances as both boats appeared to just ghost through the water even as the water had all the appearance of being a sheet of glass. Randy took line honors and a corrected 2nd with Mary collecting the race win.

As the start for Race 2 approached, so did some of the forecast wind. I elected to forego a headsail change, a decision I would regret enough to make that change on the downwind run.  The racers got off to another good start with 3 or 4 boats at or very near the line at the horn. The upwind leg was exciting in 10–15 mph wind with gusts probably nearing 20 mph with a few boats having some control and rounding up problems causing a bit of a loss in distance. Tim and Robbie got the early mark rounding and headed off downwind. At the lee pin it was Robbie, Tim, Mary, Randy, Jeff and Greg with Jim having dropped out due to some handling concerns

Corrected results are posted on the Race Page.
