Faith on the Rocks

Yesterday we entered the big boat in the fall series Saturday race. I had two first-time sailors, and one Christian Rinke as crew, and my daughter as stewardess.
The winds were gusting up to about 23 knots apparent on a windward beat and wind direction was—well, kind of from the west but changing every few yards.   It was definitely a race for us – with the crew racing from one side of FAITH to the other in an attempt to sheet in the genoa.
Even with the cool wind, the crew was getting a hard workout and working up a sweat.   Our boat was doing really good in the race:  The other boats were still less than a full lap ahead of us. [Read more →]

10/10/2009 Race Results

The days racing started and ended with little to no wind however 4 boats showed up and gave it their best shot. Race one was a slow fiasco with Tim somehow having a zephyr over his boat most of the way. It was like he had a wind finder in place of his wind vane. The rest of the fleet was unable to find enough wind to finish inside of the time limit and had to take DNF’s

Race 1
Skipper Boat Name Finish time Start offset Handicap Corrected time position
Jeff Hanson Mac/Venture 25 Vindr Knifr DNF 103.8 5
Greg Umbright Aquarius 23 3 Ring Circus DNF 5
Robbie Johnson Newport 28 Pneuma DNF 5
Tim Lynch SJ 21 Coir Jaot 64.89 5.00 101.1 59.24 1

Race two had similar wind to race one with Tim again having the wind finder on board. The rest of the fleet finished this race though and got some kind of a score.

Race 2
Skipper Boat Name Finish time Start offset Handicap Corrected time position
Tim Lynch SJ 21 Coir Jaot 58.40 5.00 101.1 52.82 1
Robbie Johnson Newport 28 Pneuma 65.83 5.00 92.9 65.48 2
Jeff Hanson Mac/Venture 25 Vindr Knifr 79.18 5.00 103.8 71.46 3
Greg Umbright Aquarius 23 3 Ring Circus 82.47 5.00 106.6 72.67 4

Standings for week two:

Skipper Boat Name Total day points Days points
Tim Lynch SJ 21 Coir Jaot 2 1
Robbie Johnson Newport 28 Pneuma 7 2
Jeff Hanson Mac/Venture 25 Vindr Knifr 8 3
Greg Umbright Aquarius 23 3 Ring Circus 9 4

Proposed WebSite

So I have been working on a new website. I hope everyone has checked it out.

I made some adjustments and updates today. Please let me know what you think.

Also, as far as storing pictures is concerned. We would have to pay an annual fee of at least $20.00 to store and upload our pictures and sort them into albums.

Therefore, I made a link to a Shutterfly account that I made which is free.  It has unlimited storage, we can order pictures for as low as $0.10 each, and even coffee mugs if you want.

The Shutterfly site has three parts, the first is a page with albums ( need to upload more pictures to finish these) the second and my favorite part is the Events Calendar which has race & meeting times & location, the third is a blog page which could replace the wordpress blog if we ,eventually, have the LCSailing.Org domain go directly to the wix website. If you want you can become a member on the Shutterfly and add pictures, chat, and have access to other member’s phone numbers and email. I haven’t added any of this yet, I want permission first, and only members could access this.

What a weekend!

This weekend was absolutely wonderful sailing!  The winds were a bit light during the racing, (Jeff will update) but at about 3:30pm the breeze filled in and we (me and my crew Mike Cannon, Robby and raffle entry crew ?, her daughter ? and her son Kevin, and Greg Umbright and raffle entry crew Nolan), enjoyed a great sail to the power lines and back.  Most of the day I had a long sleeve rugby shirt on under my life jacket and was fine.  Put the fleece on when the winds picked up, and that was enough to stay warm. Fall Series Race 1 results (October 3)

Last Saturday looked like we were coming out for a nice days sail as we put up masts and prepared to go out to race. Once on the water the wind started picking up, white caps started to appear and by race start it was at the upper end of what we might normally want to go out racing in.

I conducted a normal start sequence and off we went for a brutal two laps on a windward leeward course. Robbie was kind enough to set the windward mark and it was well down river in anticipation of good wind creating the need for a long course. Around the down river bend wind was in the mid 20’s and boats were heeling hard trying to make the mark with San Juans scooping water over the gunwales on a fairly regular basis.

We finished race 1 and called it a day. A wild and tiring day at that, thanks to everyone for coming out and giving it a go. [Read more →]
